Ordre Mondial Des Gourmets Degustateurs
|
|
The OMDG was formed in September 1963 for members who have a special interest in 'noble' drinks such as wine, spirits and liqueurs. It aims to promote a better understanding and a more in-depth knowledge of these products. Setting
aside its specific aspect, an OMDG event must be a pleasurable experience which is greatly enjoyed by its members. Fraternity and mutual respect are the main obligations and, at the same time, an honour.
The main task of the OMDG is
to organise events focusing on wine and drinks such as eau-de-vie, accompanied by appropriate dishes. The other tasks are to hold tasting, conferences, competitions, meetings etc which link in with the interest of OMDG members ad their
guests. Any active member of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs can become a member of the OMDG provided they are proposed by a member of the OMDG. The head is the Echanson who is a member of the National Executive. Each Bailliage has appointed their
own Vice-Echanson whose main responsibilities are to develop ideas and topics for regional events, they also help to choose wine for regular Chaine events.
Members can and should be happy and satisfied gourmets. Depending on his or
her profession, the member may be an 'amateur's or 'Professional'. The official induction takes place during the Chapitre of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. After taking the OMDG oath, the new member receives a tasting cup to be attached to the
ribbon of his or her rank. Professional members receive a plaque. By joining the OMDG, members are obliged to drink thoughtfully and have a duty of fraternity and respect towards fellow members. The Oath: I do solemnly promise to always
drink thoughtfully and to respect the work of the vignerons and distillers.
